Dear Member,

Welcome to 2008, our Centenary Year!  I hope it will be a year in which we not only celebrate past achievements, but we all look forward to taking the Club onward into the next one hundred years.

We will keep you in touch with events throughout the year via a mixture of letters, emails and posters in the clubhouse. Highlights so far include the Centenary Match on Sunday 25th May and a match against the MCC on Wednesday 23rd July. There will be a range of centenary cricket shirts and casual shirts for both junior and senior members. The Club is also aiming to produce an updated second edition of the Club’s history. In October the Dinner Dance and Presentation Evening which the Social Committee has worked hard to establish, will again take place on the Green.

The upgrading of the clubhouse continues and when complete, hopefully before Easter, will create a very comfortable and attractive environment for members and visitors alike. In two other projects we are hoping to improve the car park and the front of the clubhouse for the start of the season.

On your behalf, I would like to thank Alan Fisher, Harold Rylott and Steve Wright for their hard work on the Management Committee. They retired from their roles at the end of the year and have been replaced by Liz Wood (Membership Secretary), Stewart Murdoch (Treasurer) and Barry Deadman who takes on the new role of Marketing and Income Development Officer. At this moment we are still looking for someone to head up the social side as Events Co-ordinator. If you are interested please get in touch with myself or Tony Williams, the Club Secretary.

Following the AGM there have been changes to membership categories with the establishment of family membership for junior cricketers and associate membership for members living more than 50 miles from the Club. We have also simplified the Vice-President categories. There will be no increase in membership fees this year, but the AGM was given notice of an intention to increase fees in future, every second year (starting next year) by the rate of inflation over the two year period.

I am pleased with the number of people who have become involved in running the Club either as members of the Management Committee, sub-committees, working groups, project assistants or bar staff. If you would like to be involved, have particular skills you could offer, or have some ideas you would like to put to the Club, please let us know. In particular the Centenary Committee is still keen to hear ideas from members. For example they would like to invite as many ex members to the Centenary Match as possible, as the Match will be between current long standing cricket members and past players who no longer play at the club. This will also be an occasion for past members both playing and non playing to attend the festivities. As current members your knowledge of the whereabouts and addresses of ex members would be invaluable to the Committee. If you have any information please let either Barry Deadman or Mike Roberts know.

Have a great year.

Steve Wilson

Chairman
